Peugeot Motorcycles confirms participation in the Moto3 Championship

After an absence of 60 years, Peugeot got back to the race track in 2016, and with success. The victory with John McPhee at Brno, Czech Republic, was the icing on the cake after a heavy and fierce season. This has made the team of Peugeot even more determined and combative. This year, they want to score high in the Moto3TM.

To achieve this goal, Peugeot has contracted two talented and experienced riders. In 2017, the Peugeot Motorcycles Saxoprint Team will be represented by Jakub Kornfeil and Patrik Pulkkinnen.

Jakub Kornfeil is a 23 year old talent from the Czech Republic. In 2010, he made his entrance in the Moto3. Last season, he finished in the 8th place. He is definitely capable of achieving podium places and that promises a lot of good things. During the official IRTA-tests at the circuit of Jerez (Spain) he qualified fourth. So he definitely has a lot of potential.

“All my life is racing, and I had to change my life for this. It’s a hard job but I like it.”

The second pilot that will strengthen the Peugeot Motorcycles Saxoprint Team this year is Patrik Pulkkinnen. He is 15 year old young man from Finland. He has been noted during the Red Bull Rookies Cup Moto GPTM. Last September, he finished fourth at the circuit of Aragon (Spain). During his official IRTA-tests in Jerez, he improved his lap time with an impressive 1/49.910. This young driver stood already for quite a while on the wish list of the Peugeot Motorcycles Saxoprint Team.

“Just before I put the helmet on, everything comes through my mind. After I’ve put the helmet on, everything is alright.”

Florian Prüstel, head of the Peugeot Motorcycles Saxoprint Team, explains why they have chosen for Jakub and Patrik.

“We were looking for new riders who could lead the tables. Precision and speed are essential in order to win. The first results of Jakub and Patrik are certainly very promising. We start the new season with a lot of confidence.”

Peugeot also uses the team presentation to reveal the new 2017 race-designs. The last test will take place in Qatar, where the pilots will continue their pre-season training as a preparation for the official start of the championship  that will take place at the 24th of March.
